It took some persistence to get a satisfactory outcome. An electronics reset seems to have, at least partly, solved the gearchange issues and has also solved the braking issue going back to last October. Too much reliance on fault codes or lack of!

Whilst out and about in my car it developed an issue so I went to the dealership where a technician came out to look at my car to see if it was an easy fix. It was not so had to be booked in and the part ordered so it would be ready for fitting.
